Another welcome for this
weekend. Welcome to our new deacon and
his family. Deacon Danny Bougie was
ordained a permanent deacon for the Archdiocese of Toronto in 1996. He lives with his wife here in
Mississauga. His daughter is a teacher
at St. Francis Xavier Secondary School.
I believe, this is the second
time the parish has had a deacon, so some of you will be accustomed to some of
the things a deacon does. Deacons
proclaim the Gospel at Mass and they preach.
They baptize and they can preside at marriages that do not include the
celebration of Mass. As we are told in
the Acts of the Apostles deacons are particularly devoted to the service of
those in need. As men prepare for the
diaconate, their wives also participate in the study and spiritual formation
involved. Family support for diaconal
ministry is key.
We have just finished the four
opening Masses for St. Francis Xavier Secondary School and we are about half
way through the Masses for the elementary schools. We say that the Eucharist is the “source and
summit” of our life. We all need to do
our part to be encouraging and inviting.
We who treasure the gift of the Eucharist so much can be excellent
ambassadors for those who are still looking to discover its beauty.
I also started meetings across
the Archdiocese this week as the Archdiocesan spiritual advisor to the Catholic
Women’s League. Good work is being done
and as with all good work I’m sure they could use more labourers in the
vineyard.
The talk on Monday night had a
small attendance; I will try to follow through with some short videos on the
New Missal so you can learn about it at home.
